The 90-room Caliente Tropics Resort is an inexpensive Palm Springs motel that dates back to the '60s with its cheap and cheerful tiki-style decor. Fun, tropical touches abound, like tiki torches, tiki statues, and totem poles, plus palm trees and tropical flowers dot the grounds, but the property is dated and in need of a makeover. The rooms look old, with cheap bedspreads and worn rugs. The outdoor pool, however, is pleasant and one of the largest in the area, surrounded by loungers with beautiful mountain views, and there are also cabanas for lounging and barbecues. The popular Palm Springs shops, galleries and restaurants on Main Street are just a short drive down the street. Dating motel with 1960s Polynesian decor

Caliente Tropics Resort's Polynesian decor, with tiki torches, coconut sculptures, and tiki statues, caters to 1960s retro style. Even the updated lobby, which veers from the island theme, sticks with mid-century furniture and a throw rug. with a pattern of stars true to the era. Outside, the palm-lined courtyard lawn is dotted with tropical flowers, local succulents, and bright tangerine loungers, though many areas are in need of a major overhaul.

Located on busy East Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Spring's main thoroughfare, the Caliente Tropics Resort is less than a 10-minute drive from popular downtown restaurants, bars, galleries and shops. There are many other hotels in the area and a few restaurants within walking distance. Palm Spring's main attractions are a short drive away. Popular regional destinations include Joshua Tree National Park (45 minutes) and Coachella (35 minutes). It's a nine-minute drive from Palm Springs International Airport and a two-hour drive from Los Angeles.

Budget motel rooms with antique furniture and a tropical theme.

The 90 rooms have a standard motel design with direct outside entry. They're decorated with a mix of antique furniture and a few knick-knacks that go along with the property's tropical theme, like bold tissue boxes with Polynesian heads (the scarves coming out of the head's nose) and prints of palm trees framed on the walls. Worn red carpets and cheap tropical-print bedspreads add color to the neutral decor, but it's in need of an update. All rooms are equipped with mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. We found a slight musty smell which dissipated after turning on the A/C. Bathrooms are small, but have relatively large showers with plastic curtains, sinks with large vanities, and plenty of space for personal items.

The property has a beautiful and large outdoor swimming pool with beautiful mountain views. It has a spacious terrace surrounded by sun loungers and a huge jacuzzi with capacity for 12 people. The adjacent courtyard has a sunny lawn with barbecue grills and a few cabanas, but it's little more than canopies of adjacent palm trees. Stands with a few lounge chairs each. Guests will also find two outdoor shuffleboard courts and a Ping Pong table under a covered gazebo. There's a business corner with a single laptop and wheelchair next to the vending machines in the lobby. The Congo Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a tiki setting. There is a gym on site.
