It's been a few years since I updated the most popular and best selling Sherwin Williams paint colors and today I want to share with you the updated list of the best selling colors and how those colors look on your living room walls. When I'm looking for a specific paint color, I always like to start with the top-selling colors because there's a good reason certain colors become best-sellers. If you're looking for a beautiful, dependable color, this list is a fantastic place to start your paint color search.
While I've worked with most of the colors on the list, I want to break them down further and highlight twelve of the colors that, based on my years of experience with my color/design consulting business, are the most versatile and dependable. For each color I highlight, I share "pros" and "cons" of the color so you can get a better idea of the colors. I hope this list helps you the next time you're looking for the right color.
Before I jump to my favorites list, below is the list straight fromsherwin williamsof the 50 most popular and best-selling ink colors.
Repouso Gris Sherwin Williams
The number one paint color on the planet across all paint companies right now is probably Sherwin Williams Repose Gray. We'll never know for sure because we don't have that information, but I'd be surprised if Repose isn't number one right now. Repose is a fantastic warm light gray that I highly recommend to my clients as I think it's as close to perfection as you can get when it comes to a color for the whole home and a neutral light.
Advantage:I especially love Repose because not only does it look beautiful during the day, but it's one of those rare colors that also looks beautiful at night when the lights are on. No harsh undertones and very versatile.
Opposites:In rooms with lots of natural light, Repose can produce a very light blue/grey.
If you want to learn more about the best rooms to use Repose Gray with more sample environments, check out my Color Spotlightherein the gray rest.
On the other hand, every color in the Repose Gray color palette (Range 244) has made the bestseller list and I'm not at all surprised because this color palette is beautiful. All very versatile and impressive colors and you will see some of them with me today.
Sal Marina Sherwin Williams
At number two, Sea Salt is also one of the factory's most popular paint colors. When I asked the readers about itThe Facebook page of the creativity exchangeThey overwhelmingly chose Sherwin Williams Sea Salt as their favorite paint color. If you're unfamiliar with sea salt and want a soothing, tranquil spa color look no further than sea salt.
Advantage:With the right lighting, sea salt is one of the most beautiful shades of green/blue/grey and very calm.
Opposites:Sea salt is a chameleon color and can be finicky with certain lighting (generally rooms with lots of natural light). It is very important to test this color first. This color is at its best in rooms with little or no natural light (bathroom, bedroom, etc.).
If you want to see more examples of sea salt rooms, check out my Color Spotlight posthere.
Gris mundano Sherwin Williams
Worldly Gray is another reliable neutral light warm gray that is very close to Resting Gray but only slightly warmer and slightly darker. Lately I've been strongly recommending this color to clients who have a lot of natural light, as Repose can look white with too much natural light.
Advantage:In rooms with a lot of natural light, Worldly Gray is convincing and versatile.
Opposites:Mundan gray appears darker in rooms with little natural light and can appear slightly heavier/darker than a traditional light warm grey.
Crushed Gel Sherwin Williams
It's interesting that crushed ice is a newer color to me, and ironically I used it in my own home in a guest bedroom because Repose was a bit lighter than what I wanted in that room. I really fell in love with her and will recommend her. The Crushed Ice is a little lighter, a little cooler and a little more pigmented than the Repose Grey.
Advantage:Crushed Ice is a stunningly light, warm gray that falls somewhere between an almost imperceptible light and midtone. Difficult to find them among transitional neutral colors.
Opposites:Crushed ice works best in rooms with some natural light. Not ideal for bathrooms, laundry rooms, etc.
Below is crushed ice on the walls of my guest bedroom, and for reference, this room has a large window.
My friend Julie just used crushed ice in the great room of her new house that is being built and I love the result. For reference, this room below gets plenty of natural light.
Dorian Gray, Sherwin Williams
Dorian Gray is another fantastic warm neutral gray that I would class as a mid tone. I used it on a client's hood and it came out beautifully. Dorian is also a striking neutral cabinet color.
Advantage:Dorian is in the same color palette as Repose Gray but just two shades darker. A very versatile colour, whether on walls or cabinets.
Opposites:Too much natural light can make Dorian feel cooler, tending toward a cool gray rather than a warm gray.
cola de milano sherwin williams
If you're looking for something darker than a warm, neutral gray in mid-tones, Dovetail is a great color. Ideal for interior doors and cabinets. I'm afraid it might be too dark to color an entire room, but it would be good as an accent wall.
Advantage:Dovetail is the perfect and safest color when you want to add contrast to a room (e.g. interior doors) without darkening it.
Opposites:The dovetail can get hotter in rooms without natural light. Although she is still pretty in this situation.
Sherwin Williams Nebeldrift
Several of my clients have been asking for a very little neutral pop of color lately and I really love Drift of Mist because it's such a subtle color that I think it's the perfect neutral.
Advantage:Drift of Mist is one of those rare, almost nonexistent colors that you can use if you don't want white but don't want too much color.
Opposites:There is a slight hint of soft yellow (extremely bright). I'm not a fan of yellow in my paints and I find that the slight yellow softens this color into a more neutral white that I would use in my own home.
If you look down where the wall meets the baseboard you can see the color better.
Piment Sherwin Williams
I wasn't the least bit surprised to see Sherwin Williams Peppercorn on the bestseller list because this color is amazing! It's a dusky dark gray that has so much depth and is perfect for an accent wall, closets, and very small spaces like this small vanity I saw last yearSLC house parade.
Advantage:Pepper is one of the most dependable sombre colors out there. It always looks great when used on walls, cabinets and accent walls.
Opposites:I can't think of any problems with this color. It always looks good.
Sherwin Williams Iron Ore
Going even darker, Sherwin Williams Iron Ore is a star color and a beautiful very dark gray with a brown undertone that has become a popular color for interior doors, cabinets and exterior trim. Really amazing color!
Advantage:Iron ore is stunning in color and full of depth. Iron ore adds instant contrast to a sparsely used space.
Opposites:The iron ore in the exterior siding should be sampled to ensure the hues complement a home's body color, even with white. Not a big deal indoors, but direct sunlight brings nuance outdoors.
zorro negro sherwin williams
Very similar to Iron Ore is another fantastic dark color to hit the bestseller list and it's Black Fox. While Iron Ore tends towards dark gray, Black Fox is actually a very dark brown color.
Advantage:Very rich and moody dark color which is a fantastic color to accent walls, cabinets and siding. Very diverse.
Opposites:In rooms without natural light, Black Fox can tend towards a warm yet beautiful color.
von Sherwin Williams
Tricornio Negro Sherwin Williams
My favorite black for my clients is Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black. I think it's hands down the best black out there because although it's almost a true black, the browns/greys help soften the black so it's not as harsh/shocking.
Advantage:Very versatile and reliable paint for indoor and outdoor use. If you are looking for a great black I would start here because it is such a beautiful colour.
Opposites:I really can't think of any problems with this color. Very reliable and the grey/brown undertone will complement almost any color when used as an exterior finish/accent colour.
Conscientious Gray Sherwin Williams
I have been using Mindful Gray in client areas and in my own home for many years. I find Mindful Gray to be one of the best looking and most reliable warm grays out there and use it especially for cabinets.
Advantage:Extremely versatile warm gray that looks best in cabinets and siding. A bit heavy for a warm gray wall color but still nice if you are looking for a mid tone warm gray wall color.
Opposites:In rooms with lots of natural light, Mindful Gray can look cool but is still beautiful. However, if you have a lot of natural light and are looking for a warm gray that is warm to the touch, Mindful Gray may not be the best choice for you.
Most of the colors on Sherwin Williams' Top 50 Best Sellers list are fantastic. I haven't worked with many of the tan/earth colors so I can't speak to those colors. Also, be sure to test the colors mentioned above on a piece of cardboard in the room with the lights before jumping in. Lighting can drastically change a color and I want you to love your color!
